News Update
On August 19th and 20th, 2024, the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology (AiBST) in Zimbabwe proudly welcomed Dr. Fran Berlioz-Seux and Dr. Jenniffer Mabuka-Maroa, alongside dedicated DMPK scientists. This significant visit aimed to reinforce the establishment of a world-class Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Center of Excellence (CoE) in Africa, poised to support the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s (BMGF) investments in drug discovery across the continent.
During these two days, the event was bustling with productive meetings and insightful presentations showcasing AiBST's robust skills and cutting-edge platforms. These sessions highlighted how AiBST's DMPK expertise is instrumental in characterizing the metabolic properties of pharmaceutical compounds, thereby advancing pharmaceutical R&D initiatives that rely on specialized DMPK knowledge.
A key highlight of the visit was the participation of the GATES Foundation team, who shared their expectations and provided valuable remarks, further strengthening the collaborative efforts between AiBST and global partners.
In a meaningful gesture that has become a cherished tradition at AiBST, the visiting scientists planted their first two indigenous trees in Zimbabwe. This act not only commemorates the event but also symbolizes a commitment to sustainability and the nurturing of Africa’s natural heritage.

AiBST continues to lead the way in biomedical research and innovation in Africa, building capacity and fostering collaborations that drive forward the continent’s pharmaceutical advancements.
