Some of AiBST Alumni Success
Prof. Rose Hayeshi

My time at AiBST was pivotal in shaping my skills in cytochrome P450 drug metabolism and also in managing client research. Thinking back on AiBST's inception to the present day also reminds me, in my current pursuits, that persistence is crucial for attaining success. AiBST's unwavering commitment to building drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics capabilities in Africa has nurtured a growing number of experts and innovators in this field of research. Training new scientists plays a crucial role in national development by cultivating a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and addressing key societal challenges. AiBST contributes significantly to this process by providing rigorous training, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge research opportunities. By investing in the next generation of scientists, AiBST not only enhances the scientific community's knowledge base but also fuels economic growth through technological advancements and discoveries. I am grateful for the invaluable experiences and opportunities AiBST provided, which continue to influence my professional journey.
Prof. Emmanuel Chigutsa

I am currently the head of the Pharmacometrics and Quantitative Systems Pharmacology group at Eli Lilly and Company. The group conducts pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation to inform decisions across all phases of drug development. I am also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University.
The time I spent at AiBST was pivotal to my profound transformation from a simple pharmacy graduate to a scientist able to conduct research to tackle pressing global
health problems. Anyone and everyone at AiBST is presented with a world-class opportunity to learn and perform cutting-edge science, right in Africa. Research for Africa by Africans.
Dr Tashinga Bapiro

I currently work for AstraZeneca, UK and my work focuses on understanding the metabolic disposition of the oncology small molecule portfolio. My association with ABST preceded the acquisition of any lab infrastructure including the name itself. I was well into my PhD studies for which Collen was co-supervisor when he shared the concept and possible names for the institute back in 1999. From that time, my involvement with ABST in various forms, including setting up the first drug metabolism lab, started in earnest until 2005. AiBST's growth from just a concept to what it is today should, remind everyone, particularly those in government, of the positive contribution science can make to nation-building.
